As I forgot to make the cinnamon roll tutorial yesterday (I apologize and will be doing it next Tuesday) for this first Tutorial Tuesday, I decided to make one for making homemade hot cocoa and chocolate covered marshmallow stirrers. I love hot cocoa as it reminds me of being back home in WI on a cold winter night.
You will need organic sugar, unsweetened cocoa, whole milk (can use any kind of milk), water, mint extract, marshmallows, and chocolate bark blocks.
First we will be making the marshmallow stirrers. Put about 4 blocks of chocolate in a bowl and microwave for two 30 secs intervals. While the chocolate has been in the microwave, put any kind stir sticks in the middle of marshmallows.
I used small spoons I had left over from my son's 1st birthday party
Once it looks like the above picture it should be able to stirred and will be creamy. Add a dash of mint extract and stir completely. Dip the marshmallows in the chocolate individually to get them coated.
Put them on a plate covered with wax paper. (I forgot the paper and had to pry them up after they dried)
I ran out of red and green so I used purple as its one of the colors associated with Christ's robe
Now set aside to dry while making the hot cocoa. I used the extra chocolate in making my hot cocoa to make it more chocolaty :)
You will need the sugar, cocoa, water and milk
(extra chocolate from marshmallow stirrers if want more chocolaty)
In a small saucepan, combine sugar and cocoa. Add the water.
Over moderate heat, bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly until sugar is completely dissolved. Lower the heat and simmer for 2 minutes, whisking constantly. If you want it to taste more chocolaty add the extra chocolate from making the marshmallow stirrers and whisk constantly.
Stir in the milk. Increase heat and cook until heated all the way through without boiling.
To serve: Pour the cocoa into a mug. If desired complement with Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Stirrers.
